Revolution Girl Style: Fifty Years of Women in Rock and Roll Rock and roll was born of a black man's soul and a white man's...well, his whiteness; his wallet and radio station. Rock is the white man's version of black man's music; it's full of rebellion and rawness and soul, a style of music that captured America's youth and the fire and brimstone of the clergy's private hell. Elvis heard Big Mama Thornton's throaty and soulful "Hound Dog" and the rest is history; unquestionable talent aside, it was his white skin that allowed certain DJs to play him on the radio in the midst of the rigid segregation of the nineteen-fifties. Ever since then, rock has constantly walked the line between trendsetters and trendfollowers; those who innovate and those who capitalize. It is, perhaps, a natural occurance when you combine rebellion with big business. An innovative band or artist does something raw and passionate; other artists or labels take it and water it down just enough to make it marketable. As such, rock also has to keep reinventing itself, for t oday's innovation will quickly become tomorrow's tripe. The rawness of rock either frightens people or attracts them; its ability to shock and offend is legendary and vital to the survival of the genre. Proposal for a Sustainable Forestry Management Policy Forests are an invaluable natural resource with multiple conflicting uses. When left to stand, forests help conserve biodiversity, stabilize the environment and control erosion; when logged, they provide building materials, fuel and agricultural land for human use. The challenge is to find an equilibrium between these uses: in other words, to make the transition toward sustainable forestry management. Unfortunately, poverty has driven people in developing countries to clear-cut large tracts of land, while instability and corruption have rendered developing country governments powerless to stop illegal logging and trade in illegal forest products. The results have been staggering. The World Resources Institute recently reported that tropical regions have been deforested at an alarming rate of 1% annually since 1985; in some countries, the rate has spiraled to over 7% per year (1). Much of this deforestation is linked to the illegal trade in forest products. Greenpeace estimates that up to 80% of all logs cut in the Brazilian Amazon are extracted illegally; the estimate is 70% for Indonesia (2). In order to fight the problem of illegal logging and trade, I propose the following package of policy actions. First, to change US government procurement policy to prefer timber from sustainably managed forests; second, to provide technical assistance to help developing countries with forestry management; and third, to promote a national eco-certification system for sustainably managed forestry products. Gender as a Dimension of Social Stratification Essay
Everyone knows and speaks about equality between men and women, and we just conclude that men and women are not equal. Gender is considered a major dimension of social stratification since the responsibilities of both men and women are different which can be traced since old times. The society provides more power to men rather than women resulted consider gender as an important dimension of social stratification. The family is considered as the basic unit of society and that the position of the family in society class is determined by the socio-economic status of the male as the head of the family. Women are denied to highly public resources since the society point out that the role of women as mother and wife are devalued even though womenââ¬â¢s roles are vital to the well-being of society. Women are moving from being traditional wife facing new challenges of new corporate and societal responsibilities. When roles of a woman are thought to require male direction in an organization, the unequal treatment is directly related to gender roles. The roles of men and women are settled to amounts of income, prestige and power; these inequalities contribute to the system of stratification. When we talk about stratification it refers to the different layers or strata of social groups which are thought to be arranged, one on top of the other, in various human societies (Saunders 1990 p. 1). The role of age and gender in the social stratification and organizational structures are characterized by differentiation of status, activities, strengthening of organizational hierarchy and inadequate systems. Through the process of socialization, people incorporate gender into their own personalities as well as their actions. Many believe that inequality is the interlocked practices and processes resulted in continuing inequalities in work. Criticizing inequality in the context of work organizations is vital and essential for the investigation of continues creation of complex inequalities since societal inequalities originate in organizations. Women experience new types of exploitation that continue their low status. Womenââ¬â¢s share of the labor force is less than and their unemployment is higher than for men, women also earn lower than the male. Women pay may be less than that of men, although organizations require similar education, skills and training. Immigrant women who are well educated and affluent, still experience racial and gender inequalities as the source of oppression. Women and men come up with assumptions about whom they interact with within the organization, gender differences provide clues to appropriate assumptions followed by proper behaviors. Studies of race inequality have examined the production in different work organizations of racial disparities that contribute to wide racial discrimination. Race when paired with ethnicity, encapsulates multiple social realities is always inflected through gender and class differences. This theory concludes that researchers should pay attention to the intersections of race, gender and class. These intersectional analyses became generally acknowledged among scholars, but how to create and develop analyses into clear ideas of how dimensions of difference or immediate inequality-producing processes work has been difficult (cited in Holvino & Acker 2006). Governmental and social policies also increases and decreases inequalities based in gender and race which intersect with and constitute a class, civil rights and different movements challenge racial and gender inequalities. The law does not present view on such gender difference as discrimination. There are proposal for the segregation of women into female-dominated occupations in which many scholars believed that these might be a major cause of gap in terms of gender earnings. Many organizations like cooperatives, voluntary or professional organizations guided by democratic goals find inequality unacceptable and they will try to diminish it. They are fighting and working to close the gap between the jobs of men and women.

Appropriate Software and Hardware Essay
The package that I will be using will be Microsoft PowerPoint. This is the only software that will be needed, other than MS Windows in which it runs. PowerPoint is the leading presentation graphics program and comes wit MS Office, which Alex Ferguson already owns. A graphics program will also be used to manipulate the pictures image once they have been scanned in or copied from the Internet. The hardware required would be a scanner with which to scan in some of the photographs that have been taken of the team, and a digital camera, which I can borrow to take some pictures of the stadium. These can be imported into PowerPoint directly from the camera using the Insert, Picture, From Scanner or Camera command on the menu. A scanner will also be required to scan in pictures of the team, managers and stadium so fans can identify players/managers by picture and not just by name. A good monitor will be required since this information system will be running shop hours. With this in mind it will also be necessary to use a screen-saver built in to MS Windows in order to preserve the screen. A custom screensaver could be added at a later date. Lastly, a good mouse will be required for fans to navigate the system by clicking on the buttons. Data Required The manager of the team will be able to supply me with information on his team. More details about the team can be found on the Manchester United Official Website. There are also a lot of books and magazines on the team and its history. Pictures will also need to be either scanned in or copied from the Internet. A chart showing the information that I will need and where it will come from is shown on the next page: Data Manipulation The scanned/copied from the Internet, photographs and pictures can be imported into a Paint package and a text box added telling the fans what the picture/photograph is showing. Information gathered about the team will be typed in and formatted with appropriate fonts and colours. Data Flow Updating site information Alex Ferguson updates the team information whenever it changes. The new information is then stored in the application file. Dealing with customer enquires There will be a menu system with option buttons. A fan requests information from the system by clicking on a button. The system finds and displays the information for the customer. Format of information and graphics There will be around 13 slides in order to display all the information and the team history of each decade. Each slide will contain at least one picture or animation to keep the interest of the fan. The user requirements state that there should be a clear title on every slide. This should be in a larger font and in a different colour from the rest of the text. All buttons used on the slides should be kept in the same place on every slide. This will ensure that the viewer will always know where to expect the ââ¬ËBack to Startââ¬â¢ button to be on the page, making it easier to use. The interface should not use too many colours. A uniform look should be chosen and adhered to. Likewise, the selection of animations and transitions must be restricted so that everything does not look all jumbled together. These constraints will all add to the system looking more professional in the end.

Making Moral Decisions
There are many things we must consider before we make any type of decision. First off, we must think about how our actions are going to affect us and those around us. We must follow the golden rule, ââ¬Å"do unto others as you would have them do to youâ⬠. We should also be sure that we have fully good intentions, but we must remember that good intentions do not justify evil means. In addition, we must think about performing the action around our loved ones and try to decide if they would approve or disapprove. If you were to follow the golden rule, ââ¬Å"do unto others as you would have them do to youâ⬠, decision-making would be simple. In reality, however, we all know that making a decision is actually quite difficult. Often, we do not think of the other person in the situation, we only think of ourselves and how it will affect us. If we followed this rule with all of our decision-making, the outcome would be less likely to hurt anyone or anything. Another important point to consider before making a decision is that we must remember to always have good intentions. We must also remember that good intentions do not justify evil means. This means that even if we do something we good intentions and the outcome is evil, the action is still evil. If we have truly good intentions during our decision-making, the outcome will be good and moral. If we have any bad intentions at all, then the outcome will reflect these bad intentions and the situation will turn out evil. A smart thing to ask ourselves before making a decision is, ââ¬Å"Would I be proud to do this in front of my mom? â⬠If our answer is no, then the decision we have made probably is not a good one. If we know that our mother wouldnââ¬â¢t approve of what we are doing or what we are about to do, then why would we do it at all? If we think of this question during a time when we are making a decision, we are more likely to make a good choice. If we use all of these techniques in our decision making, we will be able to make better choices. We will hurt others less, and furthermore hurt ourselves less. We will also be able to stay on track and stay moral. We will always keep our good intentions in mind and push out the bad ones. Lastly, we will be able to make better choices in our lives and lead ourselves down a better road.

Gambling addiction Essay
A few years back my brother, Zach, started gambling. He started out with the small poker tables at a friendââ¬â¢s house. He would make a few dollars here and there, so he thought he could beat anyone. Zach thought he was untouchable, he thought he could be the system. It did not matter what it was. He thought he could beat it, from poker to roulette to betting on sports. He believed that he would win every time. After he got uninterested of the poker tables, he moved to betting heavily on sports. He started by betting on small high school games, nothing major. Zach would bet twenty to thirty dollars, nothing he could worry about losing. That was okay until he started betting higher wages on larger games. He then moved to college games and from there started betting on the pros. His favorite sport to bet on was the NFL. That still would not stop him from gambling on a NBA game or a soccer game. He made his biggest bounty on a NFL game two years ago. He made six hundred dollars on one game. That is the point where he got hooked. He has not stopped gambling since and is facing a real problem. This month he has already spent a thousand dollars on betting and gambling. Within the last 6 months, he has spent approximately eight thousand dollars. His gambling varies from poker games to sports. Zach favorite thing to bet on is sports though. He keeps gambling more and more and does not realize how it is affecting him at all. Gambling affects his family, his social life, and his bank account. People who gamble can have several types of problems. They are several types of gamblers. There are professional gamblers, causal social gamblers, serious social gamblers, relief and escape gamblers, compulsive gamblers, and antisocial personality gamblers. Zach falls into the compulsive gamblers categories. Compulsive gambling is where gambling is the only thing that matters in life. The gambler ignores his or her family, social life, and business. Zach does all of this. Since he has gotten hooked on gambling he ignores his family, has almost no social life, and his business is taking a hit from it. Gambling addiction is a major problem, it does not only affect the gambler, but it also affects the whole family and close friends. It can create a massive amount of tension and friction between close members of the family and friends, in a different variety of ways. Before Zach started gambling, he was always around the family. He would never miss a family event. That all changed when he started gambling. He started to spend more and more time gambling. Every day he would gamble away whatever money he had. My family started to notice, but he said he was just fine. Zach started to miss birthday, dinners, and other family events. It was really affecting our family. Not only was it affecting our family, but it was affecting Zachââ¬â¢s social life. Zach use to be a pretty popular guy. He knew everyone and everyone knew him, for good reasons. Now everyone knows him because of his gambling. Zach used to be a stand up guy, responsible, and was loved by everyone. His social life was pretty great before his gambling addiction. HPââ¬â¢s organizational structur e has grasped international attention from past decade. In 2000 Carly Fiorina was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at HP, at that point Fiorina changed the organizational structure of HP which had been there for last 64 years. She dismantled the decentralized structure of HP and introduced a more modern concept of structuring the organization in which HP was to operate with a front-back approach in which back-end unit was to deal with manufacturing while the front-end dealt with sales, marketing and customers. That was the first time a large company with numerous production lines adopted this structure which requires high level of coordination. (PEARCE & ROBINSON. 2000) However this structural strategy was a fail and in 2005Mark Hurd was appointed as the CEO and he changed the structure back to it what it was before Fiorina, that is, a decentralized structure with independently run smaller units with a narrow product focus. The current organizational structure at HP allows f or greater accountability, high sense of responsibility, aids in cost reduction and accountability of spending and better control on production to sale activities. The decentralized structure at HP is basically made up of seven divisions/segments which are either organized on the basis of products or functions. Such a structure enables HP to have greater insight about the environment in which it operates as a technological business is highly dynamic, the divisions and units have to be adaptable and agile to the changes which is done by resting the power to plan day-to-day activities to the segments.
